The partnership between Hiteco’s Smart Spindle and SCM’s Control Room service wins an award at SMAU 2025

Predicting a failure before it happens, increasing production efficiency, and transforming maintenance into a proactive service — this is the vision behind Smart Spindle (Intelligent Electrospindle), the innovation developed by Scm Group in collaboration with Hiteco, which was recognized at the 19th edition of SMAU Milan, held on November 5–6.

Hiteco’s Smart Electrospindle represents the enabling technology behind this project.
Hiteco, a global reference manufacturer of high-tech components for machine tools, supplied an electrospindle equipped with IoT sensors and data acquisition boards that allow continuous performance monitoring and optimization of energy efficiency and production process sustainability.

Electrospindles are key components in determining the precision and efficiency of machines, but they are also subject to wear and operational variations that affect energy consumption, lubricant use, and the final product’s quality.

The most innovative aspect, which led to Smart Spindle being selected for the SMAU award, lies in the integration between the intelligent spindle and SCM’s Control Room service: data collected by the sensors are sent to the SCM cloud, where they are analyzed to generate predictive insights and automatic alerts for both the service team and the end customer. In this way, the electrospindle is no longer just a component, but a continuous source of information enabling a predictive and proactive maintenance model.

From connected component to intelligent ecosystem: the electrospindle developed with Hiteco marks a strategic paradigm shift towards an increasingly data-driven, sustainable, and customer-oriented industry.

The results are tangible: up to 30% reduction in machine downtime, improved machining quality, and lower operating costs.
