SmartSpindle5.0: A New Model of Efficiency and Sustainability

September 4, 2025

SmartSpindle5.0 is one of the sustainable innovation and development projects selected by Fondazione Cariverona as part of its Research and Development program, which promotes collaboration between the research community and businesses in the Veneto region. Developed and submitted by Scm Group and Hiteco in partnership with the University of Verona, SmartSpindle5.0 is an innovative system for monitoring and optimizing the performance of the electrospindles used in woodworking machinery. These components are critical for determining the precision and efficiency of the production process. At the same time, they are also subject to wear and operational variations that can affect energy consumption, lubricant use, and the quality of the client’s final product. Thanks to SmartSpindle5.0, the adoption of advanced AI-based tools will improve electrospindle management, reducing maintenance costs, machine downtime, and environmental impact.

The project has a significant impact on companies in the woodworking sector in terms of both efficiency and sustainability. The sector faces crucial challenges such as rising energy costs, the need to reduce waste and production scraps, and the adoption of digital technologies to improve efficiency and sustainability. The new SmartSpindle5.0 solution will be progressively applied to components made by Hiteco transversal to all sectors from wood to metal. The implementation of the SmartSpindle5.0 project represents a strategic opportunity to optimize production processes and ensure greater competitiveness for local businesses, while also promoting a transition toward a more sustainable and innovative industry.
